Trials and tribulations with technology - part 2

What you see in the picture above is what I was reduced to having to buy for my job earlier this week when the servers at my job went bonkers back on Thursday. Earlier this week on Monday I had a PC scare when I tried to log on to my computer and it didn't recognize my profile which essentially had a crap load of work on my C drive. I said a prayer, rebooted the PC and it came back just fine.

Shameless Plug: The Computer Caretaker

This evening I'm bringing another shameless plug for one of my best friends. I've known him since we were in high school. At least 15 years. Trenton is nothing short of a miracle worker when it comes to computers. When other people have probably stated, get a new cpu or just wipe out the hard drive and start over. He actually puts up a fight and tries to save every piece of data that he can before doing anything else. Quite easily I can say he is probably the smartest man I know when it comes to computers and he taught himself the mechanics of computers, inside and out. When he talks about them in depth, I can say at times it kind of reminds me of my Spanish class, the blank look I normally have when something is being said and I don't have a clue what it means;) Yet I can be proud and say I don't have as many blank looks as I used to.

If you have a cpu that is giving you trouble and you've tried your nearest national electronics retailer, given it to a friend to fix, or tried doing it yourself without the results you are looking for, give my boy a try. He normally works in the Saint Louis, MO area, but he does make house calls outside the area depending on the distance. He has a facebook fan page here and his website for the business is here. Trust me whenever my family has cpu problems of any kind, we immediately call him first. The man is a beast when it comes to a challenge and I have not seen one take him down yet.

Trials and tribulations with technology

Well this evening, I'm bringing you this post not from my 2nd purchased laptop within the past 2 weeks. No that would be tooooo easy. No I'm bringing this post from my desktop cpu since my most recently purchased laptop bit the dust tonight. I'm not sure what the deal is. Both laptops were HP dv6 series. I don't need to rehash about the first laptop for that you can just see my previous post.  This newest laptop though even with it being refurbed (which I don't normally do) seemed ok and the deal on it was too good to pass up. Yet I received error messages along with it to when it decided to phuck up.

As this was playing out before my eyes I could not help but think of other technology doozies that I've dealt with. Number one on my list, my cell phone, the Tmobile G2X. Probably the worst Android phone I have had the displeasure of using. I went through 3 of them before dealing with the one i have now and it's only a FRACTION better than it's predecessors. I still have to take the battery out on a daily basis, wait a few seconds for commands to go through, but at least it doesn't get so hot that I have to put it down. Well not so fast at least. I think the most I was pleased with it was when I fell down the steps at my sister's aparment complex building last October. It broke my fall, and in return I broke it. See at least then I knew it was a piece of shit and could physically tell. I didn't have to wait and wonder like when I first bought it.

So tomorrow morning, after I go to work for 3 hours, go to my dr. appt, I will make a trek to Micro Center and calmly fling my laptop on their countertop and see what options they present. I have a warrenty on it but I know they have a restocking fee supposedly on their laptops but I wonder if it also goes toward it being defective. Who knows if I do decide to return it I know it will be a minute before I go for another laptop.

GOTTA LOVE TECHNOLOGY

Well of course by now u already know that I'm back in the wireless department at my job. Yesterday i bought sprint phone which pretty much has a free plan and today I received my verizon phone via fedex. Again pretty much another free phone. So as I'm playin with my new Sprint and Verizon phone the first thing I look for is not too good. I don't have a signal at all with my Verizon, my Sprint barely keeps a signal at the house. So I still am mainly using my Tmobile service at the house since that is the only one with 5 bars of strength.

Yet I must say the V-Cast feature with Verizon is on fire. I've downloaded some songs to my Lg -vx8300 and the mp3 sound is so-so but still definitely a cool phone. On the Sprint phone Samsung A640 I like how sleek it is and it does have the Ready Link feature but overall since I have the Boost Mobile which is part of Nextel as well I must say that Nextel still has the best walkie-talkie system still out there.

So overall now I have new toys to play with and it should be interesting
